Synopsis

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a historical drama set in 1946 following Juliet Ashton, a London-based writer who forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey through their shared love of literature. As she learns about the unique book club they formed during the German occupation of World War II, Juliet is drawn into their stories of courage, resilience, and secret tragedies. Through letters and visits, she uncovers the impact of the war on the islanders and finds herself profoundly changed by the relationships she forms, ultimately discovering a path to healing and love.

Score

Alexandra Harwood’s score for the film plays a crucial role in brining emotional depth to the narrative. Her music blends tender piano melodies with beautiful orchestral arrangements, effectively capturing the bittersweet tone of the film. The score supports the narrative’s themes of love, loss, and resilience, subtly shifting from light-hearted during moments of connection and joy to more somber and reflective during scenes depicting the islanders’ wartime struggles.
