1m11 First Tower Collapse

Paul Saunderson

Similar to the previous cue, the purpose of this cue is to build tension as we watch the first of the Twin Towers engulfed in smoke and eventually collapse. Paul describes this cue as a cluster of elements, all building and building until it feels like something is about to break. For the first time here, there is a repeating melodic element in the piano and basses, providing a sense of inevitable, impending danger.

Paul describes the cue as being textural, but he also takes care to emphasises important moments with the score. He does this primarily using higher pitched, sustained notes on sul tasto cello and bowed glockenspiel. He also adds a new tremolo piano sound to this cue for the first time, again intended to add an interesting texture to important moments.
