Paul describes this cue which is written for a sequence revealing the new box, built twenty years after the first was occupied by the film’s contributors. This moment marks the beginning of the third act of the documentary and Paul wanted his score to highlight this feeling of transition.
In the first half of the cue Paul combines hope and tension by using seconds, fourths and sixths, without landing on a major or minor third. This creates a sense of ambiguity which only settles when we are introduced to the film’s contributors as they are now, when the tone shifts to one of intrigue and mystery.
